A fragrance oil is a manufactured product designed to mimic the aromatic properties of the item it is named for. P&J Premium Grade Fragrance oils are highly concentrated, enhanced formulations designed by master perfumers with more than 30 years in the industry. Their IFRA certifications ensure that our fragrance oils meet the Premium Grade standards and are the best quality oils available on the market.
Fragrance oils are a way to add comfort, and extra sensory experience to your home, laundry, soaps, perfumes or stationery. Occasionally, you may hear them called by a different name, such as aroma oils or aromatic oils. These are the same product as fragrance oils. Even though fragrance oils are known as a synthetic product, they do include natural ingredients.
Essential oils are generally the purest form of the plant, fruit, bark, nut, or flower from which they're distilled from, while fragrances are almost entirely a synthetically manufactured product. Though many fragrance oil manufacturers use certain types of essential oils or natural carrier oils in the manufacturing process, they are still, mostly synthetic.
Our entire line of fragrance oils are Premium Grade, also known as Cosmetic Grade, which means they were formulated for, and deemed safe for use in topical applications per FDA and IFRA guidelines and standards. Additionally, all the aroma compounds used in premium grade fragrance oil manufacturing are rigorously tested and approved by the FDA for this usage. Our line is also phthalate, paraben, and acetone free. Though you can use our oils for diffusion, they are actually made specifically for cosmetic applications like soaps, lotions, bath bombs, perfumery, and hair products.
That being said, like with any new product, we suggest performing a small patch test prior to regular use to ensure you’ll have no natural sensitivity to the product. To patch test, simply rub 1 drop of oil into the sensitive skin in the crook or bend of your arm. If no irritation occurs, you should be fine to proceed with use. If the area becomes red, itchy, or otherwise irritated, wash the area well with soap and water and discontinue direct use.
Fragrance oils in general are made up of a mixture of over 100 natural and synthetic ingredients specifically engineered for varying purposes (e.g., burning oil has a high alcohol content whereas premium quality is designed to be skin safe, and has little to no alcohol content). The exact ingredients as well as manufacturing procedures are considered "trade secrets"-just like perfumes- and are protected by the FDA so we are regretfully unable to go into much detail regarding specifics. However, we can identify the staple ingredients approved by the IFRA, International Fragrance Association, for use in fragrance oil manufacturing. These ingredients consist of; plant-based carrier oils and essential oils; Aldehydes; Esters; and some variation of amines, ethers, ketones, lactones, terpenes and thiones. All our oils are phthalate and DPG free. The above ingredients can be simplified in that fragrance oil manufacturing includes essential oils, aroma chemicals, and aromatic resins. Of these three types of ingredients, there are several layers of ingredients used to create the finished fragrance oil. Due to the amount of engineering involved in designing a scent, it is treated similarly to a commercial recipe in that the exact ingredients and percentages are protected and cannot be disclosed.
Per International Fragrance Association (IFRA) guidelines, there are three grades of fragrance oils produced for today’s fragrance market – Burning Grade, Manufacturers Grade, and Premium Grade.
Burning Grade fragrance oil is the lowest quality and should only be used in candle formulations or diffusion.
Manufacturers Grade fragrance oil can be used when heavily diluted, such as in laundry detergent and cleaning supplies.
Premium Grade fragrance oil has been thoroughly tested and meets all qualifications for the IFRA’s standards for use in all skin and body care applications as well as direct topical use.
All P&J Trading Fragrance Oils are classified as Premium Grade, and therefore completely safe to use in all applications for which fragrance oils are suited.
There is no need to worry as all our fragrance oils are perfectly safe to be used around pets. Just ensure your pet is not ingesting the oil since our fragrances are not formulated for ingestion.
We are proud to say all our fragrance oils are manufactured in the United States by our IFRA certified master perfumer.
Our entire line of premium fragrances are completely free of nuts and nut-based carrier oils, like peanut, tree nut, sesame oils, etc. As they are primarily composed of aroma chemicals, aroma compounds, and some essential oils (no nut-based essential oils) which contain no nut matter whatsoever. Additionally, our facility does not process nor, manufacture any products containing nuts or nut oils.
Our entire line of premium fragrances are completely phthalate and paraben free. As our oils are composed primarily of aroma chemicals, aroma compounds, and some essential oils, in which we specially engineered as phthalate free.
Although fragrances may use natural carrier oils and/or essential oils, they are otherwise almost entirely a synthetically manufactured product. Any products labeled or marketed as "fragrance", "perfume", "essence", or "scented" will generally always be a synthetic oil.
We do not recommend utilizing our oils for lip balms or lip products as they are not formulated for ingestion.
We currently do not offer samples. We do, however, provide free domestic return shipping. If, for any reason you are unsatisfied with our fragrances, you are welcome to return them free of charge for a full refund.
You can certainly use our oils for diffusion! We do recommend diluting them in water and, like all oils, ensuring the oil/water is not allowed to burn dry or evaporate as this may cause damage to the bowl. Please also note, certain ultrasonic and cool mist diffuser manufacturers discourage the use of fragrance oils as these diffusers are made with very small pieces and tubing which can sometimes clog if not water soluble. Though this isn't an issue with all diffusers, we do encourage contacting the manufacturer directly.
Unfortunately, we do not currently allow for the direct resale of our fragrance oils. We do however, highly encourage you to sell the items you have made using our fragrance oils!
All our fragrance oils we offer are completely vegan (no animal byproducts like rendered animal fats or ambergris) and never, under any circumstances, tested on animals.
We do not currently offer any bottle sizes larger than our 100ml bottles.
Our entire line of premium fragrances are completely gluten free as they are composed of aroma chemicals, aroma compounds, and some essential oils (not hay, corn nor other grass related essential oils) which contain no gluten matter whatsoever.
All P&J Trading fragrance oils have a shelf life of 18 to 24 months. For best results, be sure to keep them in a cool, dry area unexposed to light.
While very few of our oils are formulated with trace amounts of plant-based carrier oils (no soy or nut-based), they are not additionally cut with any carrier oils. Instead, they are formulated with certain essential oils, aroma chemicals, and aromatic resins to be safe for topical use per FDA and IFRA standards.
Fragrance oils have many uses that you may not be aware of. They are one of the most versatile oils available on the market. For more ideas visit our Recipes or DIY Blog!
